EP REVIEW: BEN DROWNED COMES BACK EVEN STRONGER WITH SECOND EP
In case you haven’t heard of Ben Drowned yet, it is the solo project of Lincolnshire’s own Ryan Wilson. Ben Drowned sees him experimenting with different genres and blending emo with something somewhat electronic to create a really unique sound.
Feel Collins is the follow up to his first EP, I’m Not Fine But That’s Okay, which was released last year. Whilst both are very similar in terms of their content as they chart Ryan learning to understand his depression and the impact that it has on relationships, the latest release shows a massive jump musically. The vocals are a lot tighter, the production level is a lot higher and the songs are a lot catchier.
The standout track for me is definitely the EP’s opener, My Shallow Heart. It’s the type of song you wanna blast out of you car stereo until the speakers are shaking and you’re shouting along to the chorus. It hooks you and prepares you for the more melancholic later songs.
