ALBUM REVIEW: LUKE RAINSFORD W/ ‘I’M NOTHING LIKE MY DAD TURNED OUT TO BE’
I’m Nothing Like My Dad Turned Out To Be shows a completely different side to Layover’s vocalist, Luke Rainsford. It’s a little bit folk punk in the way it’s just him, an acoustic guitar and a notebook full of very honest and personal lyrics.Whilst there is quite a lot of similarity in the structure or some of the tracks, the little stories that come with each one keep you hooked from the first song to the sixteenth. The self-aware nature of A Note To My Teenage Self makes it a real stand out track. It seems to follow pop punk traditions and stereotypes yet also pokes fun at them. Let’s face it we all think our lives are like a Moose Blood song, and Luke Rainsford is no different. You really can’t fault this album: His vocals are amazing and the lyrics are painfully relatable for any 20-something year old. I’m Nothing Like My Dad Turned Out To Be is definitely one of those easy-listening summer road trip albums.
